Part-Time Child and Family Clinician Job Description
General Description:
The Child and Family Clinician is responsible for providing trauma-informed therapy services to children affected by parental incarceration. Services include clinical assessment, treatment planning, and delivery of psychotherapy sessions. Sessions may include individual child therapy, caregiver consultations, and caregiver–child/family sessions during and following periods of parental incarceration and separation.
The clinician will coordinate care with community partners, and provide case management to ensure families receive comprehensive, holistic support. This role also contributes to program development by offering research-informed and community-informed recommendations to strengthen services for families impacted by parental incarceration. This is a 20-hour per week grant-funded position.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or other related field required. Residents in Counseling or Supervisees in Social Work with appropriate experience will be considered. LCSW or LPC is preferred. Experience in providing clinical services to children and families required. Understanding of trauma-informed care, multiculturalism, family systems and knowledge of community resources are preferred.
Major Responsibilities (20 Hours per Week):
- Conduct intake sessions with children, and caregivers utilizing trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate assessment tools to identify symptoms, coping strategies, attachment dynamics, protective factors, and preliminary DSM-5 diagnoses as appropriate.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, highlighting strengths, challenges, and treatment goals.
- Provide outpatient psychotherapy to children and caregivers using evidence-informed approaches to attain stated treatment goals and objectives.
- Provide case management services including: maintaining clinical records, coordinating care with other professionals, and referring families to community resources when needed.
- Participate in ongoing research, training, and implementation of best practices for working with children and families affected by parental incarceration.
- Assist in developing additional interventions, resources, and tools aligned with identified needs of families impacted by parental incarceration.

Family Advocate Job Description
General Description:
Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) seeks a full time Family Advocate (FA) for our Child Advocacy Center Program (primarily based at the Richmon CAC location). The FA holds a vital role in ensuring that all victims and families served by the CAC and Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) receive consistent and necessary support services to promote healing. CAC Family Advocates provide support, screening, and education to caregivers while their child(ren) participates in a forensic interview. Family Advocates are a first point of contact to assess for needed resources, provide information about the investigative process, and offer support and crisis intervention.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree preferred in counseling, social work, psychology, juvenile justice or related fields. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess excellent time-management skills to manage workload and responsibilities. Must be able to work well independently and in team settings. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with child victims and their families from diverse backgrounds, as well as with multidisciplinary team members. Must display cultural competency, professional ethics, and professional boundaries. Experience and proficiency with data-entry and data-management for client tracking and for program evaluation a plus. Bilingual (English and Spanish) is also preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Orient the family to the forensic interview process and meet with non-offending caregivers while their child is in the forensic interview;
- Provide an overview to caregivers regarding the agency roles on the MDT, trauma-focused treatment options, and additional resources available;
- Participate in pre- and post-conference meetings with MDT investigators at Forensic Interview/FA appointments to ensure information sharing and coordination;
- Provide crisis intervention and ongoing support for the child and family, as needed;
- Conduct screening for safety concerns regarding self-harm;
- Implement Child and Adolescent Trauma Screen 2 (CATS 2) and provide caregivers with education about abuse and/or trauma and its effects on children and families;
- Make appropriate referrals for trauma-focused treatment for children and other specialized treatment as needed;
- Assist with communication between caregivers and MDT partners on an ongoing basis
- Provide referrals for Forensic Medical Exams as needed;
- Request Youth and Caregiver Satisfaction Surveys as required;
- Partner with all agencies within the multidisciplinary team, and any other agencies to ensure needed services are provided ;
- Participate in MDT Case Review Meetings and provide follow up as needed:
- Maintain client records to reflect client interaction and referrals made within TRAK database;
- Participate in ongoing supervision, staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and maintain training requirements as outlined by GRSCAN and the National Children’s Alliance;
- Maintain strict standards of confidentiality;
- Perform other duties as requested by the CAC Director
Salary & Benefits:
- $50,000 – $54,000 per year.

CAC Trauma-Focused Treatment Part-time Clinician Job Description
General Description:
The CAC Trauma-Focused Treatment (TFT) PT Clinician is responsible for providing trauma-focused therapy services for non-offending caregivers of children and teens who have experienced traumatic events, co-facilitation of caregiver group offerings and overseeing implementation of the Protection Clarification Model for caregivers. Responsibilities include: crisis intervention, clinical assessments, and outpatient trauma-focused treatment. In addition, the clinician will provide comprehensive case management services, conduct intake appointments, participate in Protection Clarification Model with all CAC TFT staff members, oversee implementation of this model by scheduling consultation meetings, utilizing a tracking document to track progress of the CP Model, and coordinate efforts within a team-based approach. The CAC TFT part-time Clinician position is hourly and up to 20 hours per week
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or other related field. Licensure as an LCSW or LPC is preferred. Experience working with individuals who have experienced traumatic events (specifically sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, witness to violence and problematic sexual behavior) is preferred. Understanding of trauma-informed practice, multiculturalism, family systems required and knowledge of community resources is preferred.
Major Responsibilities:
- Participate in training of the Protection Clarification Model, provide therapy services to caregivers with this model and oversee implementation of this model within CAC TFT Service delivery.
- Co-facilitate group/workshops for non-offending caregivers.
- Provide outpatient therapy using a variety of evidence based/informed treatment modalities (e.g., Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI) and expressive therapies, *training will be provided*) for caregivers to attain stated treatment goals and objectives.
- Conduct initial intake sessions utilizing trauma assessment measures to identify symptoms related to trauma, healthy and unhealthy coping skills, challenges that may require outside referrals, caregiver protective factors and determine preliminary DSM 5 diagnoses.
- Provide crisis intervention to assist non-offending caregivers as needed for clients on active caseload.
- Provide case management services including: maintenance of electronic health records, online appointment schedule and provide referrals to community resources as needed.
- Participate in team-based approach with CAC staff members.
