 Parent Group Facilitator

Job Description

The mission of Greater Richmond SCAN is to prevent child abuse and neglect. The Parent Group Facilitator is responsible for leading an intensive treatment and/or intervention-level parent education group at Greater Richmond SCAN. Other duties include: assessing client’s needs, providing case management and service referrals; maintaining client records, as well as additional required paperwork; collaborating with children’s group facilitator regarding family needs; participating in quarterly staff meetings, monthly peer supervision; developing and maintaining relationships with human service providers in the community; and maintaining contact with supervisor regarding group and client needs.

Qualifications

This position requires: (1) a minimum of a Master’s degree in social work or other related human service field; (2) existing knowledge of child abuse and neglect issues; (3) prior experience with providing parent support/education in a group setting; (4) strong/developed clinical skills; counseling experience; (5) excellent verbal and written communication skills; (6) experience working with diverse populations and cultural competency; and (7) program documentation and evaluation skills.

Position: This is a part-time position for either a day or evening group (3-5 hours per group).

Circle Preschool Program Therapeutic Classroom Aide/Teaching Assistant

Job Description

The Circle Preschool Program Therapeutic Classroom Aide/Teaching Assistant’s primary responsibility is to assist the CPP Lead Teacher, Program Director and Clinical Services Coordinator with service delivery in the classroom. They will participate in facilitating educational and therapeutic components of classroom intervention.

This position will give the opportunity to work as part of a team with clinical social workers, early childhood and special educators, a speech pathologist and occupational therapist. The team will work with children 3-6 y/o to develop social, emotional, regulation, relational, early literacy and math and early executive function skills. This facilitation of skills takes place in a therapeutic setting for children with chronic stressors, high adverse childhood experiences and trauma. The aim is to support each child’s capacities to regulate and relate with others to promote interactions, resiliency and skill development.

Qualifications

Therapeutic Classroom Aide/Teaching Assistant must possess a minimum of a High School diploma with a preference of an associate’s degree or higher. The Aide must have experience in working with preschool children (ages 3-5), willingness and openness to learn therapeutic skills specific to behaviorally challenged preschoolers and willingness to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, GRSCAN Staff, VCU Interns and staff of The YWCA Sprout School.

Major Responsibilities

  • EDUCATIONAL AND THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTIONS-Co-facilitate classroom experiences with the Director and Lead Teacher by implementing educational and therapeutic interventions as developed in children’s studies-focused learning experiences plans
  • SCHOOL ROUTINES Assist children to follow arrival routines including regulating and acclimating, area selection, sharing and interacting with peers, etc.
  • AUTONOMY Assist children to independently use the restroom and regulate to eat and converse at mealtimes. Support children to dress independently and use large muscle movement areas to develop their sensory, social and fine and gross motor skills.
  • INTERACTIONS Assist children to maintain regulation, communicate ideas and preferences, share materials and ideas, gain skills, suspend play, sort materials back where they go, and transition during Circle Time, Guided Play and Learning Experiences
  • OUTDOOR LEARNING Engage with children to interact and share with peers during Community Walks, playground time and gardening experiences-including communicating ideas, bridging ideas, sharing and remaining regulated
  • REST TIME Assist at rest time by helping children to regulate into rest
  • PORTFOLIOS Document and create/update Portfolios for each child in the class that include photos of the children interacting, authentic work samples-drawings, paintings and plans
  • CLASSROOM TASKS Perform tasks as determined by the Lead Teacher throughout the school day including setting out learning materials, cleaning and disinfecting meal surfaces, preparing the class backpack, stocking classroom supplies, washing and sterilizing water bottles, etc.
