As we look toward the end of this year and into 2015, we are grateful to celebrate some significant anniversaries in the life of SCAN. Jeanine Harper, Executive Director of SCAN, celebrates 15 years in her leadership role. Jeanine continues to carry the important mission and work of SCAN as it evolves and expands throughout our community.

In November, we celebrate 10 years of the work of the Child Advocacy Center (CAC). Since its opening in 2004, the CAC has provided a place of hope and healing for children and families. The work of the CAC improves the investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse cases. It is a place for collaboration between the adults who ensure children’s safety and wellbeing, including medical personnel, law enforcement, and Child Protective Services professionals.

To celebrate and honor the work of the CAC, we will be gathering current and past colleagues along with supporters of the CAC on November 17th to enjoy an evening of fellowship and fun. It will be held at the CAC and will begin at 5pm and offer light refreshments and appetizers.

In 2015, we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Richmond CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Richmond CASA advocates for abused and neglected children involved in the City of Richmond’s Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court process. In 2009, Richmond CASA merged with Greater Richmond SCAN and strengthened SCAN’s advocacy for children. The amazing work of Richmond CASA and those that make it possible will be honored during the summer of 2015. More details to come.
