Anne has been with Greater Richmond SCAN for 13 years serving as Program Assistant. She provides integral support within the Child Advocacy Centers (CAC), Circle Preschool (CPP) and our Family Support Program (FSP). Throughout the years Anne has stepped into numerous roles as needed and continues to provide an amazing set of skills and staff support to SCAN.
How did you first get involved with SCAN? I had been out of the work force raising my three children and was interested in finding part time work. A friend and board member at the time knew there was an opening at SCAN and connected me to the organization.
What has your life/work experience been that brought you to SCAN? I have always had a soft spot for children. I enjoyed working with numerous organizations when I was home with my own kids and wanted to make a difference in some way when I went back to work.
What inspires you to stay involved with SCAN? The co-workers – I have never been around a group of people that are so caring, kind, responsible and passionate about what they do. Everyone has gone above and beyond any expectations I could ever have.
Is there anything you wish other people knew about SCAN? I wish more people knew how many lives have been touched in our community by SCAN’s work.
What has been the best experience with SCAN so far? My best experiences have been seeing the positive outcomes of children that we have served. I have been fortunate in my 13 years to have seen numerous children and family’s lives changed dramatically for the better by the work done specifically with the Child Advocacy Centers, Circle Preschool Program and Family Support Program (primarily the programs I assist with day to day).
Are you involved with any other community organizations, hobbies, or activities? I enjoy volunteering and am currently helping out at vaccination clinics when I can. In my spare time, I love to read, exercise, travel and spend time with my husband and three grown children, two son-in-laws and my first grandchild.
What might someone be surprised to learn about you? My degrees are in Math and Computer Science and I previously worked as a Software Engineer. SCAN was a new experience for me and it has been a great one!
