Jeff Elgin has long been a supporter of Richmond area nonprofits. After talking with close friends about SCAN’s work, he recently decided to expand his community service. He then met with Executive Director Jeanine Harper to talk more deeply about SCAN’s mission.

“I became much, much more aware how substantive the programs are and how compelling the need is for SCAN’s work to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect,” Jeff said.

Jeff said he quickly felt compelled to do more and joined SCAN’s Board of Directors in July 2012.

“I’ve learned a lot during the past few months,” Jeff said. “I’m anxious to be contributing as a board member.”

Since joining the board, Jeff said he continues to be impressed at the holistic approach of SCAN’s programs that both prevent and also treat situations of child abuse. The compassion of staff members to both take care of the child and take care of the caregivers is inspiring, he said. What’s more, he said, is the professionalism of SCAN staff members as they work with community partners such as the multidisciplinary team members through the Child Advocacy Center.

“It’s a great group of people,” Jeff said. “I am certainly excited to be working with them. I’m also excited to help SCAN operate and continue to be such a robust resource for the prevention of child abuse.”

Jeff is serving on the Board of Directors Development Committee, which works to support SCAN’s efforts to raise funds and awareness. He said he’s looking forward to raising awareness among his own friends, family and coworkers about SCAN’s work and how they can support SCAN.

Jeff has lived in the Richmond area for more than 17 years. He now works at Capital One as the Vice President of Enterprise Digital IT, helping to manage the company’s digital assets, websites and mobile applications.
