The Board of Directors of Greater Richmond SCAN(Stop Child Abuse Now) invites you to join us for a virtual presentation.

Friday, October 9, 2020
8:30am – 9:30am

*This event is taking place virtually this year and will be presented through a Zoom Webinar.*

Join us on October 9th to learn more about SCAN’s Trauma-Informed Education work including the Circle Preschool Program and SCAN’s work within the public school system focusing on the social-emotional needs of children.
In our community, trauma is all too common for children and families. The correlation between trauma, low academic achievement and behavioral issues is strong and relevant. Trauma disrupts the brain’s ability to learn and regulate emotions and behavior. SCAN, with our community partners, is on the front lines working to combat trauma and build resilience and protective factors in children, families, and neighborhoods so that our children can flourish and have the best long-term academic and social outcomes.
SCAN’s Circle Preschool Program provides a unique healing environment for young children and their families. The preschool offers high-quality early childhood education and mental health treatment to children who have experienced trauma and works with their caregivers to help reduce the long-term effects of trauma. Our goal is to integrate children into mainstream classroom settings so that they are able to thrive in school.

Through partnerships with Henrico County and Richmond Public Schools and Boys & Girls Club, SCAN’s Trauma-Informed Education staff provide professional development, coaching, modeling and technical assistance to individual schools, school districts, and out-of-school time programs around the creation of trauma-responsive school practices and policies.

As a guest, you will be given the opportunity to make a donation to help children and families who have been impacted by abuse and neglect. There is no minimum or maximum amount suggested, and no obligation to give. We hope that you will be inspired by SCAN’s work and want to get involved.
With your support of SCAN, more children will have the opportunity to thrive academically,
socially and emotionally.
